The IXrouter does not support Power over Ethernet (PoE) and using it may cause permanent damage depending on the PoE type.
Active PoE does not cause damage to the IXrouter. Active PoE typically conforms to the IEEE 802.3af, IEEE 802.3at, or IEEE 802.3bt standards. In short, it waits for a power request before delivering power. The IXrouter does not request power (over Ethernet), meaning no power is delivered over the Ethernet cable. As a result, no damage is caused.
Passive PoE will cause permanent damage to the IXrouter. Passive PoE does not conform to any IEEE standard. In short, it will always deliver power. The IXrouter does not request power (over Ethernet), but power is still delivered over the Ethernet cable. As a result, permanent damage will be caused to the IXrouter's switch port or switch chip.
